Baby Bump: 35 Weeks Pregnant & a Bebe Au Lait Giveaway

How far along are you? 35 weeks pregnant – also known as 35 days to go! Today is sort of like a golden birthday or something, right? 35 & 35 – feels good! It’s crazy to think that we are just about under the 30 days / almost 4 weeks / 1 month to-go mark!

How I’m feeling: Feeling alright – things are becoming increasingly more difficult as the weeks go by and my symptoms are starting to bother me a little bit more now too. I also feel that I am at that weird point in the pregnancy where, in reality, the baby could come at any time – so when I have pains I am not really sure if they are just pregnancy pains or labor pains. It’s a fun grey area to be in {not really}.

35 weeks

Total weight gain: Up 17 pounds – I didn’t have any weight gain from my last appointment – I have my next appointment tomorrow so I’ll see what we are up to then!

How big is baby? According to my iPhone apps, the average baby at 35 weeks is around 18 inches long and tips the scale around 5 pounds – about the size of a honeydew melon – Basic physical development for Baby Brinks is now complete – kidneys are developed, liver is complete & lungs are good to go too –  now baby’s main job is to pack on the pounds to prepare for birth. From now on he will gain around 1/3 of a pound per week, which will keep him warm once he makes his appearance into the world.

jacket no longer zips

Maternity clothes: It’s official, my jackets no longer button, zipper or close. Which is no fun considering all the snow we’ve been getting here in Philly lately. My belly is cold. I’ve started to layer up a bit more and borrow some of Charles’ sweater shirts. Pregnancy during the winter is rough because of all the extra clothes you need and let’s be honest, the snow & ice are not my friend. I’m starting to think it’s going to be a long winter – luckily I will have a baby to snuggle with soon!

Sleep: I had a really bad two nights over the weekend where my lower back was in serious pain. I was up every hour to move around/use a heating pad/lay on the floor just to try to feel better. It was tough and not a good feeling. I am also up on average every 2 hours to pee at night, which is no fun. Unless I seriously tire myself out during the day, I can rarely go 3-4 hours sleeping without waking up. I also am more congested, especially at night, which when paired with my heartburn it just adds to the slumber fun!

week 35

Best moment this week: We have officially finished the nursery! Everything is hung on the wall & the last few things I was waiting to arrive have come & found their spot in Baby Brinkley’s room. I am so excited about it, I find myself going into the nursery multiple times each day just to peek in and look around again. My parents & in-laws are going to see the finished nursery for the first time this weekend & I can’t wait to share it with them! Once they see it, I will be posting pictures on the blog!

Movement: Baby Brinks movement has definitely changed from weeks ago when he was so small & could kick and punch up a storm. Now, since he is bigger & has less room, the movements are different – he is easier to feel from the outside and usually when I touch him, he makes a movement back. It’s also crazy to feel just how big he is, since I can feel multiple body parts stretching out across my tummy.

all the five guys

Food cravings: All the Five Guys. I seriously can’t get enough cheeseburgers, it’s becoming a problem. I was out running some errands the other day and it was sort of lunchtime and I randomly passed by a Five Guys & it was nuts how fast my car magically turned into the parking lot. Also I am still really into Cheerios & Terry’s Chocolate Orange Slices. And Chili!

Food aversions: Chicken

What I Miss: Being able to sleep like a normal person. But I fear I won’t be getting back to that for a long time.

What I’m looking forward to: Packing my hospital bag. I have my bag out, most of the things I need and a list but its just sitting in the guest bedroom, unpacked. Everyday I say I am going to do it & I don’t. Maybe officially packing “the bag” makes everything really real? Who knows, but I am looking forward to {fingers crossed!} crossing that off my list this week!

What are your Must-Have suggestions for my Hospital Bag?

Suggestions/Tips/Words of Wisdom Welcome!

Milestone: Other than finishing our nursery we don’t have any other big milestones to celebrate this week. We have a breastfeeding class we are going to tonight and an all-day childbirth class this Saturday so we definitely have lots going on still. Not to mention next week is Christmas!

And now another #10DaysofGiveaways for the moms & moms-to-be out there!

Today is all about Bebe Au Lait and their amazing nursing covers! I am so excited to use this once Baby Brinkley makes his arrival, I love the pattern {I got Pasadena} – there are so many fun colors to choose from. I actually picked this pattern out before we even knew if we were having a boy or a girl, so I wanted something neutral – but all the patterns are so beautiful, it was hard to choose my favorite!

Bebe au Lait nursing covers are amazing because they are generously sized for maximum coverage, come with terry cloth pockets for storing breast pads/pacifiers, the fabric is soft, breathable & 100% cotton {which is also easily machine washable} and the straps are adjustable. Pack that bag! I had the same thoughts at 35 weeks, but I forced myself to pack my bag one saturday afternoon, and at 36 weeks, not 3 days after I packed my bag I went into labor! I was so glad I’d done it ahead of time! I’d recommend lots of loose comfy yoga pants and tanks that can pull down for nursing, lanolin for those first few days, Always ultra thin pads (wonderful to move to a thinner pad after the first few days of ginormo pads), basic toiletries that make you feel human, an ipad and camera for lots of photos, a cute outfit to take baby home in and snacks! The rest of the things I packed I never used…. The hospital provides a ton, and take as much of that home as you can, especially the burp cloths!!!!! I was most thankful for my toiletries though – a hot shower with my shampoo and soap and a little make up made me feel so much better when I was swollen and uncomfortable post labor.

Agree, pack your bag! I wound up not using most of what I had with me- I actually stayed in the hospital gown for 2 days (had an unplanned c section so moving around to get dressed was not happening). But a little mascara and face wipes went a long way.

As for nursing covers, my little guy hates it- he has serious FOMO, so he doesn’t like being shut away from what’s going on. I haven’t really nursed in public, and if I have, I just whip it out. His head covers the view of anything. Sometimes I can drape a blanket over my shoulder to cover (if he lets me). If I won this, I would give it to my friend who is due in the spring.

Cheeseburgers were my major pregnancy craving too ;).
For the hospital bag, I recommend loungewear for after you give birth. I brought a nursing tank, flowy cardigan, loungy sweat pants, and those cozy socks (or slippers), and wore those later in the day after having the baby. Oh and granny panties 😉 I brought a night gown, but didn’t wear it- I just wore the hospital gown before having the baby, then pajama pants or loungewear after. I wore maternity jeans and a top home. I brought toiletries and took a shower too. I know I brought a bathrobe and I think I wore that over the hospital gown. For the baby you’ll want some swaddle blankets, and I think I brought a couple clothes options, but really only used a fleece sleeper and hat as her going home outfit. The rest of the time the hospital had her in a t-shirt, diaper, hat, and swaddle blanket. She didn’t really wear clothes til we took her home. You’ve probably heard this, but make sure you take all the stuff you can from the hospital like the pads, tucks, squeeze bottle, diapers, the nasal aspirator, all that good stuff. You’re in the home stretch!!

I am 34 weeks and 4 days and have yet to pack my hospital bag. I did go out and buy travel sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, and face wash so I don’t have to lug mine around. I keep saying that I am going to pack it and then put it off. My goal is to pack it before Christmas! Good luck, I love reading your blog and your weekly posts since we are pretty close in time.
