Tonight I took part in a tribute run for Boston that was put on by Philadelphia Runner & all the amazing running clubs and stores in the city. I think it was one of those things that started out as something small and turned into something more than one could have imagined. When I made my way from our apartment to meet up with Fairmount Running Company, I was immediately impressed with the turnout. Our group made our way from the Art Museum area down towards Center City, we ended up running on the streets because our group was so large.
We ran to City Hall to meet up with all the other running groups that came from all over the city. It’s hard to describe what it was like to come inside City Hall and be greeted by hundreds of runners. The place was packed, I don’t think anyone was prepared for that kind of turnout – word on the street is that there was more than 3,000+ of us!
The organizers said a few words and then there was a little surprise – the city of Philadelphia actually shut down Market Street from City Hall to Independence Mall {where the Liberty Bell lives} for runners to take over the street in honor of our Run for Boston tribute run. It was pretty cool to run down Market Street at dusk, on a beautiful Spring evening with hundreds of other Philly runners.
It was an amazing moment of Community. It was inspiring to be a part of the run this evening and its simply wonderful to be able to share it with you on my little blog.
Here are some photos from the tribute run for Boston this evening – Enjoy:
