Philadelphia Chocolate Tour

This weekend I took my wonderful mom on a Philadelphia Chocolate Tour. I got her this present for her birthday last year and we were just able to find time to go now!

The tour met at 10:45 am in front of Reading Terminal Market.

CHOCOLATE 042

We were greeted by our tour guide and given a brief history of chocolate and the cocoa bean.

CHOCOLATE 043

Then it was off to the (chocolate) races!

CHOCOLATE 044

We started off at Famous 4th Street Cookie Co.

CHOCOLATE 045

The chocolate cookie recipe here has been a family secret for the past 25 years and the cookie is still made the same way.

CHOCOLATE 048

The chocolate chip cookie did not disappoint!

CHOCOLATE 051

Mom got to work on her cookie! Yum!

  CHOCOLATE 057

Next we hit up an amazing little chocolate gem known as Verde. This is not a ‘normal’ chocolate shop because its mainly a flower and gift shop first. It is an adorable little boutique with so many amazingly cute things. I need to go back there and get my shop on.

Inside Verde, Marcie Blaine chocolates are being created.

CHOCOLATE 066

Doesn’t this guy look like Chuck Bass? Any Gossip Girl fans out there?

 CHOCOLATE 068

CHOCOLATE 071We got to samples a few different chocolates off a tray.

CHOCOLATE 074

I enjoyed my mint julep – made of heirloom mint and bourbon. My mom tried the Lolita Margarita which had tequila, lime and passion fruit. Both tasted like the drinks!

CHOCOLATE 076 CHOCOLATE 077

All these chocolates were so intricately designed with awesome flavors. I want these for my wedding

In between each stop we did a little walking tour of the city. It felt good to walk off some of that chocolate! 🙂

CHOCOLATE 058CHOCOLATE 129

Our third stop was the Bellevue.

CHOCOLATE 085

There we hit up the famous Teuscher chocolate store.

 CHOCOLATE 087CHOCOLATE 089 CHOCOLATE 088  CHOCOLATE 090

“Tea for two, and two for tea” …excuse my singing! Ha!

 CHOCOLATE 094

At teuscher we got to meet the manager and learn a little bit about these Swiss chocolate treats.

CHOCOLATE 092 CHOCOLATE 093  CHOCOLATE 095  CHOCOLATE 097

Here we got to try the world famous champagne truffles. These were my favorite thing on the tour! I loved them!

The signature Champagne truffle is made with Dom Perginon champagne and dark chocolate cream ganache.

I wanted to eat all the truffles, but these bad boys were $$! For $6.50 you could get only two truffles! Wowsers!

CHOCOLATE 116

The teuscher store changes decorations seasonally, 4 times a year. These flowers are handmade and very intricate and delicate. So pretty!

Fiance…cough cough…   :)

 CHOCOLATE 127

After spending some time in Switzerland we headed over to Miel Patisserie to get the French take on chocolate.

CHOCOLATE 130  CHOCOLATE 132CHOCOLATE 133CHOCOLATE 151

At Miel we got to try the Luxe.

CHOCOLATE 134

The Luxe consisted of  dark chocolate mousse, raspberry and vanilla Bavarian , chocolate  and cocoa.

CHOCOLATE 135

It was delicious.

CHOCOLATE 137 CHOCOLATE 138

It even tied for first place for my favorite treat on the tour!

CHOCOLATE 142CHOCOLATE 150

“Miel’ is the French word for honey. I enjoyed the decor that tied in with the name.

CHOCOLATE 144      CHOCOLATE 153 CHOCOLATE 154

Miel also had a really nice outdoor space to take your chocolate outside and enjoy on a lovely day!

CHOCOLATE 157

After hanging out in France we headed back to Switzerland to Swiss Haus Bakery.

CHOCOLATE 185Here we got to try a bunch of different treats – an apricot creation, pecan pie and a hazelnut treat, which Swiss Haus is most famous for.

CHOCOLATE 159 CHOCOLATE 164  CHOCOLATE 165 CHOCOLATE 166

I loved it all!

CHOCOLATE 170CHOCOLATE 174

I might be coming back to Swiss Haus to check out this Oreo Stuffed Cup Cake. This guy was massive!

CHOCOLATE 175 CHOCOLATE 176 CHOCOLATE 177

We also got to try some rye bread which was made with sauerkraut. It wasn’t chocolate, but it was really yummy!

CHOCOLATE 178  CHOCOLATE 184  CHOCOLATE 187

Last stop on the tour was Capogiro. Can you believe I live in Philadelphia and have never been here?

CHOCOLATE 214 CHOCOLATE 189

Lots of gelato!

CHOCOLATE 192 CHOCOLATE 193

Here we got to try out some icey chocolate.

CHOCOLATE 194

There were 4 flavors – chocolate, darker chocolate, darkest chocolate and chocolate chip.

CHOCOLATE 195 CHOCOLATE 198

CHOCOLATE 199 CHOCOLATE 200

My favorite was the chocolate chip!

CHOCOLATE 210

Before we knew it, that was the end of our tour – and we were a little bit chocolate’d out! We had an awesome tour guide and had a fabulous time checking out some different chocolate stores in Philly!

 CHOCOLATE 212

Like mother, like daughter. Chocolate lovers for life!
