This past weekend was a big weekend in terms of wedding planning. My parents came all the way up from Virginia to spend the weekend crossing a few items off our wedding to-do list!
Where we are getting married there are a few (three) different options for caterers. I have been talking with all three of them, discussing menu options and pricing so I was excited when I found out I was going to be able to do some tastings too!
On Saturday afternoon we all headed down into Center City to attend our tasting with Jeffrey Miller Catering. It was so exciting to walk into the room and see the table all set up for us!
In attendance for the event were my parents, fiancé’s mom as well as fiancé and myself! We were all excited to enjoy the meal together!
Fiancé and I brought wine for everyone to enjoy. It was definitely an afternoon worth celebrating since we had our families together to go over some potential wedding details.
To start off the tasting we were presented with a wide variety of appetizers. When I was initially sent the menu to start looking at options, I was definitely overwhelmed! There is 6+ pages to choose from and it’s hard to narrow down your choices!
Here are a few of the things we tried. I am not sure what we are going to keep and what we are going to change, but everything was really tasty and fresh!
First we started off with The Love Note (Love the name!) – A Phyllo Envelope Of Asian Pear, Goat Cheese And Caramelized Shallots. This was really yummy and a great vegetarian option.
Next up – Coconut Beer Battered Shrimp Served With Sweet Chili Sauce
A favorite for the day were – Cheese Steak Spring Rolls Original South Philly Cheese Steak with Sautéed Fried Onions and Cheese Whiz Encased In A Crispy Spring Roll Wrapper Served with Spicy Ketchup
I like the idea of having something local to Philadelphia for our many out of town guests! It’s a cute choice!
For a chicken option we enjoyed – Indonesian Chicken Satay Skewered And Served With Spicy Peanut Dipping Sauce
For something a little different we tried out the - Vietnamese Summer Rolls Shrimp, Crispy Lettuce & Carrot, Scented With Mint & Cilantro And Served In A Fresh Rice Wrapper
For the salad option we tried out the Baby Spinach Salad. It was yummy but I think I would add a little fruit to this bad boy!
The big chip on top is actually cheese! Cool, right?
We also tasted a few different dinner options which were set on different kinds of plates.
I believe we are planning on having a steak, fish and vegetarian option. We are still finalizing what we want, but I know fiancé and my dad were loving the steak and I was really enjoying the salmon!
I loved the mango on the salmon! It was so pretty – and the portions were really big too!
It will be hard finalizing the decision for the food, but hopefully we will be able to choose everything soon!
The next part was what I was looking forward to all week!
THE CAKE!!!
I didn’t know what to expect but I was really hoping we were going to be tasting the wedding cake. I had sent the caterers some ideas that we were thinking about for the final cake and I was so excited when we were able to taste one of our choices!
The cake was so good, it was insane! It was fresh and moist and the icing was amazing! I loved it!
This is the size of what would be the actual top of the cake! So exciting!
I was in cake heaven!
It was so fun to spend the afternoon in the city enjoying some amazing food and talking out some details about the upcoming wedding!
Thanks Chef Toni! Everything was awesome!
Fiancé and I had a lot of fun! It defiantly got us even more excited for our big day!
If you have any words of wisdom for us when choosing our menu for the wedding, please share them! I would love to hear what you think about choosing menu items!

I'd definitely suggest skewing more of the budget towards appetizers if you can! Our guests were starving when they got to the cocktail hour and having extra apps was key.
I'm getting hungry just looking at those pictures. Yum!! and cute dress! 😉
Loved the tasting! The food and food presentation was awesome and it was so much fun thinking about the big day! Thanks Tony for a wonderful meal!
My best advise is make sure you are happy with the meal you get even if that means you have something different then the guests.
