Yesterday was a glorious day in terms of wedding planning. My mom came up to Philadelphia for the day because she was picking up Jackson. She is taking him back down to Virginia for the next 5 days or so while fiancé and I are in Boston. No puppies allowed in our hotel up there – tear.
My mom and I decided to take advantage of her being up in Philly for the day and spend some time searching for a wedding dress for me!
I talked to some friends and decided we would start our search at Priscilla of Boston. I know some friends who got dresses there and my mom also got her dress from there as well! I knew it would be a great place to start.
Can you tell from these pictures I am slightly excited for this experience??
We walked in the doors and stepped into a sea of white.
My mom and I got straight to work going through dresses and picking out some things to try on. I had an idea of what I wanted and what I didn’t want, but I decided to have an open mind and try a little bit of everything on.
There were so many dresses to choose from. It was hard to pick what I wanted to try on.
My mom and our consultant helped me pick out 8 different dresses to try on. It was very surreal stepping into the dressing room to try on the gowns. It made the upcoming wedding way more real for me.
I kept an open mind trying on all the different dresses. I wanted to give everything a chance, but I sort of knew what I wanted. When I have an image of something in my head, it’s hard to get rid of it when I know its what I want – this was true in my wedding dress shopping experience as well.
I ended up falling in love with a gorgeous gown (not pictured anywhere here!). It is everything I pictured and knew I wanted from the start. It’s perfect – but I am having trouble committing. I only just started looking and I want to check out another store or two before I make my choice.
Any other ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ fans out there? I love when Randy says that its harder to commit to the dress than the man! It’s seriously so true!
Either way the one year before the wedding mark is approaching and I need to pick a dress. The word on the street is that it can take up to 9 months after you order the dress for you to actually get to see your dress, and then another month or two (or more!) for alterations.
It’s such a process! It freaks me out that I won’t be able to see the dress for another 9 months or so after ordering. That scares me a bit.
My mom and I have plans to do some more dress shopping again very soon. Any Philly readers have any other wedding dress shop suggestions I should check out? I honestly don’t even know where to go next.
After working up an appetite trying on dresses for over 2 hours, my mom and I were seriously hungry! Wedding dress shopping is hard work. There is nothing like feeling skinny while trying on wedding dresses and then going our for burgers, fries and shakes!
My mom had read my recent post on 500 degrees on the blog and on Uwishunu so she wanted to try it out for herself. We each got a burger, split some fries and I got a black & white shake (this bride needs her daily ice cream intake!)
Bridal gowns, burgers, fries, milk shakes and mom.
Nothing better.
Did you know May is National Burger Month? Get out there and try a new burger joint!
Where is your favorite place to grab a burger and fries?

Try Country Way Bridal – I think it's in Haddon Heights, NJ. Great dresses!
Aww yay wedding dress shopping looks so fun! My friend Alexis went up to NY to Kleinfelds, she loved it.
Ok, I will tell you my experience at Priscilla was AWESOME and I only went to 2 other places. They knew exactly what they were doing and I loved my dress. 🙂
I love Say Yes to the Dress. I'm totally missing it because I'm at home right now and we don't have cable!
And congrats on the dress shopping. If it's "the dress" you'll be comparing everything else you try on to it. I kind of knew what I wanted too and I found it, so I know you will too!
Wedding dress shopping is so fun! I remember that when my dress finally arrived after I ordered it, I made an appointment to go in and "see" it. (My actual dress, not the sample.) I was soooo excited yet so nervous that I wouldn't like it after waiting so long for it to arrive. Thankfully I loved it. Trying it on again after so many months was sooooooo fun… I didn't want to take it off, and it made me so excited for the wedding.
Also, don't stress out too much about times. They say 9 months, but it's usually not that long. They tend to push timelines on you to get you to commit to something and buy it. They told me 8 months, but my dress arrived in 4-5 months.
Okay, this post totally makes me want to go try on wedding dresses, just for fun… lol.
My favorite place for a burger & fries is a tavern by one of our malls in Minneapolis! They have a build your own burger menu which is pretty amazing.
This looks like so much fun! I'm happy to hear you found a dress you liked. You'll be able to compare every other dress to that one and if nothing is good enough, then you'll know! My friend got her dress at Bridal by Danielle http://www.phillybride.com/ – its a smaller store but they definitely have a good selection!
What a fun day with your mom! Enjoy every moment leading up to the wedding. =)
I love Ingrediant – its a place in Columbia, MO and they use all fresh and local ingrediants. AND ITS SOOOO GOOD.
Dress picking is hard. I committed as soon as I found one I liked, but I only had 9 months to plan it so I was under pressure. Take your time and if you are able take pictures, so you dont forget what the dress looks like while you are waiting for it to come in.
Good luck with all your wedding planning!

The day was so much fun – enjoyed every minute of it with my baby girl! Can't wait until next week to try on more dresses. Also, 500 degrees didn't disappoint, it was delish! Looking forward to the next restaurant and wedding dress experience!
Hi Leslie! I just found your blog from Melissa's and got excited when I saw you were looking for wedding dress shops in Philly. I grew up just outside of Philly and got my wedding gown from La Bella Moda http://labella-moda.com/ in Conshocken. I had a really great experience there and I was even able to negotiate the price. You should check it out!
I am getting married in April '11. I went to Agnes Edmunds in Pottstown, PA. I was the first place I tried on dresses. I ended buying the first dress the owner picked out for me. She is AMAZING! Plus alterations are included in the price….which a compleate plus! Check her out… you wont be dissapointed.
When I need to start wedding dress shopping (when I ever get engaged) Priscilla of Boston in Boston is my 1st stop! 🙂
