Hi everyone! My name is Monica and I write a little blog called Run,Eat,Repeat In the spirit of Leslie’s racing successes in ’09 I thought I’d add in my $.02 about getting ready for a race of any distance. I love running, but I’m not exactly a natural runner. I have to work hard to keep up with mediocre, but that doesn’t stop me! I have said that all the stars have to align for me to have a good run. Well, a little preparation helps too. Here are a few of my practices that help me keep running:
1. Start off slow and relax into a good pace. Seasoned and new runners alike can have a habit of running full speed ahead and burning out too soon.
2. Fuel well. I swear by salty carbs the night before a long-ish run. For me this means Chinese food with rice and soy sauce. But above all you have to figure out what your body likes best.
3. Get enough rest. I make sure that I never run more than five days a week max. I’ve scaled it back to four days a week during marathon training. This helps keep injuries away and your legs fresh.
4. Have fun! This is supposed to be a hobby, not work. Enjoy it 🙂
