Oats Envy

This morning for breakfast I popped open a new box of Country Choice Organic Multi Grain Rye, Barley, Oats and Wheat. I know the oats are going to be good when I snack on them a bit raw while I am making them. Does anyone else do that?

My oat issue is this: I can never make them right. I use the portion suggested – 1 cup water and 1/2 cup oats, I heat them up in the microwave and it is ALWAYS either half cooked, or there wasn’t enough water and they are dry. This batch was sort of half cooked. blog 001

I have been on the yogurt train for a while now because every time I try oats, I get discouraged that I can’t make them just right. Aren’t they supposed to be more mushy? Do you see how you can still see the oats, and they aren’t fully cooked?blog 002

I totally have Oats Envy because Rose always makes such beautiful oatmeal creations every morning, and they look so amazing and tasty. Am I using the wrong things? To this I added strawberries (obviously), some chia seeds and some peanut butter. I know you can pretty much add anything you enjoy to oats, but am I making them wrong? Using the wrong things? I always just feel they look so much better in other people’s pictures than when I make them myself, they don’t live up to my taste expectations.

On a non-oats issue, check out what I got from Target yesterday. Its a ladder bookcase/shelf from the Target Hudson collection. I saw something similar from Crate and Barrel a while ago and loved it, but it was too pricey. It was like 1/3 of the price at Tarjay~! Win! I brought it home late last night and wanted to put it together asap, but boyf wasn’t very excited about doing that. He was a trooper and put it together for me anyways! What a guy.  Thanks boyf!

I have been rearranging the living room area all morning trying to find a spot for this thing, but I am not sure where it belongs. Cute though, right? We have high ceilings and still need to put stuff on the walls to decorate, which is why I liked how high this piece is.

Below the picture is from the target website. My ladder shelf comes with a matching desk , which I would really love to do my computer work on, but I don’t think we have room for it with the way we have things set up now. So cute!

Hey girl! I love that oats blend. I always make mine on the stove with 1/3 cup grain blend and 2/3 cup water. So, 1/2 cup oats and 1 cup water sounds right for that. I experiment though, and find that for reg. oats I like 1/2 cup oats and 1.5 cups water.

I found that oats blend needs less water than regular oats do, and I cook the country choice blend longer than regular oats (6 minutes on the stove). That oat blend definitely has more texture than normal oats, which I like.

I'd definitely try cooking them on the stove–they're so much better than in the microwave!

I think everyone wants Rose's oats!!

I like your brand. I love combinations of grains.

My trick to a perfect bowl of oats is just to check it halfway through the cooking and add water as needed. Yum 🙂

I think I am going to try them on the stove tomorrow. That may be the trick. I can't be lazy and use the microwave when it comes to precious oats in the morning!

I have the same problem with oats! I have learned to like them a little bit "Gloppy" not soupy!

    I love the shelf, too!

I always use stovetop. Microwaving just doesn't work as well, unfortunately. I also always mix water + milk or I just use milk. If you want really creamy oats, it's sometimes worth it to buy 1% milk instead of skim.

Have you ever tried Kath's banana oatmeal method? I like that too – but sometimes it's too sweet for me.
